Custom code workflow - NodeJS 20 deprecation?

Hi All,

We’re using a few Custom Code Actions in our Hubspot workflows on NodeJS. Most are still on NodeJS 16. We had started upgrading these to NodeJS 20 but I think I’ve seen that v20 is being deprecated? Do we know when the next version will be available in the workflows? If its going to be soon, then we might wait to upgrade to the new version. I’m assuming NodeJS 20 will continue working fine for a while if not.

Hey @TomC86 great question and good news!

The deprecation you may have seen is actually specific to HubSpot Projects, not Custom Coded Workflow Actions. Here’s the breakdown:

  • The Node v18 deprecation (Oct 1, 2025) explicitly excluded Custom Coded Workflow Actions, since they had already moved directly to Node v20.
  • The Node v20 deprecation currently being discussed is for HubSpot Projects (v2025.1), driven by AWS Lambda’s Node.js v20 sunset on August 1, 2026 - this does not affect Custom Coded Workflow Actions.

For Custom Coded Workflow Actions, Node v20 is the current supported version with no announced deprecation or timeline for removal. There’s also no announcement yet of Node v22 (or newer) coming to Custom Coded Workflow Actions, so there’s no reason to wait.

Go ahead and proceed with upgrading your Custom Code Actions from Node 16 to Node 20; that’s the right move, and you won’t be upgrading into anything that’s on its way out.

Hope that helps clarify things! Let me know if you have any other questions. :slightly_smiling_face:
