Hi Hubspot-Team,
it would be wonderful to have the opportunity to copy permission sets in future. I can not work with the standard permission set templates provided by HS.
It is a lot of work to start from scretch everytime I would need a permission set which has almost the same settings as an existing one. Especially in complex Enterprise Accounts.
If there is a workaround or a function (which I oversaw) pls. let me know
Thanks for your help
Manu
Hi @MMartin794,
If you’re on an Enterprise subscription, you can create custom permission sets and apply them to existing users: Create and assign permission sets
As of now, it’s not possible to copy permissions from one user to another but custom permission sets are essentially the same thing.
Best regards!
Hi Karsten,
Many thanks for your rapid answer.
I have been using permission sets already. The use case I tried to explain is differnt.
I want to copy one permission set and than change the copy of the permission set.
It is not possible to copy an permisson set currently - see screenshot.

Hi @MMartin794,
Aaah, you want to clone permission sets. This is currently not possible, no. Other users have however requested this before:
https://community.hubspot.com/t5/HubSpot-Ideas/Clone-User-Roles/idi-p/340306
https://community.hubspot.com/t5/HubSpot-Ideas/Ability-to-Clone-Permission-sets/idi-p/702247
The product team reviews these requests based on their popularity. I’d recommend upvoting and commenting.
You can also help others find the request more easily (and drive traction) by accepting my reply. I’d appreciate it, too.
Best regards!
Hey Karsten,
yes - copy or clone seems the same for me in that case. But thanks for the links to the ideas.
I voted them up

Hi @MMartin794,
Good news: this feature was actually introducted yesterday!

[Live] Clone Permission Sets
Nov 14, 2023
What is it?
Enterprise customers will now be able to choose an existing permission set to be cloned. Cloning the permission set will take the user to the creation flow of a new custom permission set. It’ll have the permissions of the original permission set as a starting point.
Why does it matter?
Today, Enterprise customers create custom permission sets to assign similar access users in bulk. If one user needs slightly different access because of a job change, scaling role, or more, admins have to recreate an existing permission set from scratch. This update introduces the ability to copy an existing permission set as the foundation for a new one, saving admin users time.
How does it work?
Navigate to the Permission Sets tab within Users & Teams, choose an existing permission set that isn’t a Super Admin permission set that you would like to clone, choose on the clone action, change the name of the new permission set and any changes you’d like to make for the new permission set, and save the permission set.
Who gets it?
Super Admins on the following plans: CMS Enterprise, Marketing Enterprise, Ops Enterprise, Sales Enterprise, Service Enterprise
Hi @karstenkoehler
thank you so much for thinking of me and my post. That’s wonderful. Thank you for your support
Have a great day.

This has strange behaviour. When I clone a Permission Set, it takes all the users from the previous Permission Set and moves them to the new one, unless I explicitly remove them all. I think the standard use case, is to take one permission set, then make a new one, for a different set of users. Otherwise why wouldn’t I just edit the Existing permission set.
