Dear HubSpot documentation team,
I am new in HubSpot and using the API to get updates or inserts in the contacts object.
I use asp.net (vb) application to achieve this. I use RestSharp download for the call to the API. The documentation of your website is about RestSharp from versions ago and points to methods and lines that are no longer supported by ResSharp v108.
It is really a bad experience to try to figure out an API call based on an outdated and very incomplete documentation.
For example : to update a contact there is nowhere to find that the syntax of the request URL should be : https://api.hubapi.com/crm/v3/objects/contacts/somename@domain.nl?idProperty=email
I miss in your documentation a complete example and not only some fractions of (outdated) information.
API is supposed to be simple. It is non-sense to buy some third party data connector because the simple lines of syntax are badly documented.
Below an example of asp.net vb code to update a contact:
the end result is simple and you only need less than 10 lines of code. But it is like you need to randomly test all kinds of strings to get it working as the documentation is too bad to be true.
Please next time when you document, try to document from the perspective of somebody that needs to use your API for the first time and does not have the inside information of the developers of your team that created the API.
Thank you for your consideration
If so, you’ll need to post your feedback to that repo as it is independently maintained. If not, can you drop a link here to the documentation you are referencing, please?
Dear Jaycee,
No I am referring to the documentation on HubSpot platform, so the API documentation from HubSpot and not from the NetSharp team. They have nothing to do with this.
The problem is that in the API Hubspot documentation the C# examples that refere to the use of RestSharp use an outdated syntax that is no longer supported by RestSharp. And beside this the documentation is not really a good starting point as it throws you somewhere in the middle without an explanation from the start on how to do things.
It was a really annoying experience to find out that it is actually simple but that you need to figure out based on other sources from persons that gone through the same unhappy experience with the HubSpot documentation how to do things.
This is the HubSpot documentation starting point I used. To come to the real API documentation and code examples is not straight forward and I did not spent time to find that entry point in the documentation again. How to use HubSpot’s APIs
I know software is never complete, documentation neither. So please have a critical look at the content and try to improve to prevent losing days of trial and error while it could be done in 30 min.
