Currently, when configuring required fields for record creation (contacts, companies, deals…), HubSpot only supports AND logic: every field marked as required must be filled in before saving the record.
The request: add the ability to group required fields with OR logic, meaning at least one field in a defined group must be filled in, but not necessarily all of them.
Concrete use cases:
- Email OR Phone: at least one must be provided to create a contact
- Company Name OR Domain: at least one is enough to identify a company
Why it matters: Real-world data is rarely perfect. Many teams work with contacts who have a phone number but no email, or vice versa. Forcing both creates friction and leads to workarounds like fake placeholder values or skipped validation entirely.
This would allow teams to enforce data quality standards that reflect real-world data collection constraints, without sacrificing pipeline velocity.
Suggested UX: when marking fields as required, allow users to create a “required group” with OR logic. If any one field in the group is filled, the group requirement is satisfied.
As documented here (Customize the create form for each object), required fields on record creation currently only support AND logic. There is no way to configure OR logic between fields.
