Allow for disabling assignment notifications for custom HubSpot user properties

You can create a custom property which uses “HubSpot user” as a type. This syncs to HubSpot users and allows you to easily store additional user information, such as attributed users, first outreach users, etc.

The issue is that these properties all trigger the default “You’ve been assigned a record” emails.

So for example if I want to have a custom property to use in automation which stores the last meeting user, I can’t do this without also triggering a “you’ve been assigned record…” email every time someone is set as the last meeting owner.

The only way around this right now is to have the user completely disable assignment emails and create custom assignment emails through workflows. Which is a bit tedious and just gives us more automation to maintain.

Could we have an option in HubSpot user properties to disable assignment notification emails for this property?

Honestly shocked this isn’t a thing already, even HubSpot’s support AI bot said this shouldn’t happen, but HubSpot support have told me differently.

+1 to this request — I completely agree with Tom’s assessment.

We also utilize custom HubSpot user properties (e.g., to track roles such as Sales Executive, Client Success Specialist, Implementation Specialist, etc.), and we consistently encounter the same issue. The automatic “You’ve been assigned a record” emails don’t make sense in these contexts and create unnecessary noise for our teams.

Having to either:

  • Globally disable assignment notifications (which we don’t want), or
  • Rebuild assignment notifications manually through workflows

…feels like an unnecessary workaround. It adds admin overhead and makes ongoing maintenance more complicated than it should be.

What could solve this:

  • A simple toggle in the property settings to enable/disable assignment notifications for that specific property.

This would give admins the flexibility to use HubSpot user properties for data structure and automation without spamming users with irrelevant assignment notifications.

I definitely support this — it would improve both the user experience and admin efficiency.
