HubSpot does validate email addresses because there are backend records on the email addresses that can be checked online to verify if an email is valid or not. And so this is something that the forms tool does. If an email is not valid, it will not allow the form to be submitted using that email.
But when it comes to a phone number, we can choose to have the country code chosen. However, this will not validate if the phone number is correct or not according to the country. The only validation rules that you can add in a form phone number field are the minimum number of digits and the maximum number of digits that the visitor can type.
It would be really helpful if we could have a similar system to the email validation for phone numbers. I believe this is very much needed.
Hi @PIrigoyen,
You’re not alone! There is a similar idea that has been posted already that I recommend upvoting so it gains more traction with the HubSpot product team - check it out.
Hello @OPerek-Clark
Thank you for that information! I updated the post which has more information and surely will get faster to the HubSpot team.
Thanks again!
I dont know how we do not have this. People put in all zeros and I can not stop it, then it causes merging errors.
Hi folks,
I’m Ian, the Product Manager for HubSpot’s Forms tool.
Thank you all for taking the time to submit, upvote, and comment on this Idea. I’m happy to report that we enforce phone number formatting (E.164) on phone fields in the new forms editor.
Ian
E.164 doesn’t validate that it’s an actual real phone number, it’s a formatting enforcement. There should be a way for HubSpot to validate phone numbers being input. We’ve had people input things like 123-456-7890 and HubSpot doesn’t flag it or force them to update the number in the form.
YES PLEASEEEE CAN WE GET THIS ON THE ROADMAP ASAP??? Just spent 4 hours trying to export/re-import phone numbers and validate and add country codes and split out international numbers for whatsapp because my client is very excited to start using SMS and just upgraded to the text plan, and it was suuuuuch an enormous pain. She doesn’t want to upgrade to Ops hub pro because she’s already paying almost a thousand monthly for content/marketing hub pro and isn’t fully seeing the use or ROI yet, this is key, she’s very excited about text possibilities. Let us know hubspot team - thanks!
Hey Ian, I’m a bit confused about your update because I still don’t see how its possible, chat support doesn’t think it is, and i don’t see it on the new form editor. Can you give us a bit more context and instruction? Thanks!
Hey, I had the same issue and set up a workaround using Zapier + Numverify. It doesn’t validate before the form is submitted, but it does an automatic check right after, and it works really well. Here’s what my setup looks like:
Step 1: Clean the Number with OpenAI (Optional but helpful)
I use OpenAI inside Zapier to clean and format the phone number into international format using the country field submitted in the HubSpot form.
Step 2: Validate with Numverify
I send the cleaned number to Numverify, which checks if it’s a valid number, gives me the correct local and international formats, and confirms country and carrier.
Passing phone number into Numverify:
