As of Aug. 21, the beta for multi-step forms currently allows users to click "next" on each step regardless of whether or not they have completed the required fields.
This causes a couple of obvious issues:
1) If they get to the end of multiple steps but have missed a required field, they have to hit "back" through each step until navigating back to the missed field
2) If you have property logic included (i.e. skip to step 3) but they don't complete the required field with this logic, then hitting "next" will not trigger this logic and they will go to Step 2.
Desired functionality: I believe the required field check should be triggered at each step and flagged when clicking "next" and prevent nagivation to the next step.
I'm Ian, the Product Manager for Forms. Thanks for sharing all of your feedback, we hear you. Making it so that clicking next is blocked until required fields are completed and valid data provider is now in development.

Thank you all for taking the time to submit, upvote, and comment on this Idea. I'm happy to report that this Idea is now In Planning!
The product development process is always filled with unexpected bumps and hurdles, so I can't give a timeline, but I am confident in saying we'll deliver this feature next year.
All updates will be relayed on this thread, so stay tuned!
I agree that it would be very valuable to have validation on each specific step to avoid sending form users to the incorrect step. Even if it was a toggleable option separate from the "required" field.

I ran into a similar problem. It will be great for a user to be prompted to fill out the required field before clicking "next" to go to the next step in the form.
This will reduce user frustration and increase form submissions.
Thanks for the update, Ian. The multi-step form is something that solves a number of significant issues for us, and I'm thrilled with the idea of not having to look outside HubSpot for a solution.
i totally understand that the nature of product dev makes it hard to say when this will be available, but my heart sank at "next year". Is there any possibility of this moving up in priority?
ps - I'm amazed by how much good stuff the product team consistently delivers. You guys rock.
Hi @IMcDonald! After hoping to get this multi-step form finally into production for our company, this is the biggest blocker we have to ensure that it's a great experience for our prospects. Watching this closely as I'm desperately trying to get all my forms in HubSpot and get off Gravity Forms once and for all!!
Any updates on this? We have the most awesome comlex, multi page, skipping steps, hiding/showing fields etc based on content. That becomes totally useless as someone can just click next and see all the steps and half of them don't make sense if you haven't selected something on a previous page. This has got to be fundamental functionality!
