Need to be able to clone an individual deal. This is helpful for recurring revenue organizations and building MRR. Please!
Update from @JoeMayall: Due to a technical error on HubSpot’s end, this thread has an inflated upvote count. As of June 10th, 2020, we estimate this thread has around 500 upvotes. I'll continue to update this count as the thread receives upvotes."
I'm Naz from HubSpot's product team, and I have great news! Our product team has prioritized Record Cloning in 2025. We'll keep you posted as we make progress toward this goal. In the meantime, if you are interested in participating in any research as we shape the solution, please submit your contact information in this form.
Hey HubSpot Community, Here to share an un-fun update. We explored Cloning Deals in the second half of 2023 but are not ready to execute yet. Projects like this seem easy on the surface, but both technical and customer experience implications really matter. We're committed to providing the best experience, and sometimes that means taking extra time to do so. I know this is still a pressing need, and plan to make strides this year. In the meantime, as folks on this thread have mentioned, either using a workflow or an app like Deal Duplicator are your, admittedly not perfect, best options. -Maggie
Hi HubSpot Community great news! Our product team is prioritizing this feature and actively working on a solution. To help us better understand what exactly you'd like to clone (e.g. properties, associations, activities), could you please take this short survey? Thank you!
*Update: Survey link has been fixed, please let me know if you're still not able to access it.
Thank you all for your incredible patience. We reckon an update is warranted.
Unfortunately, this idea remains unplanned. The team is currently planning some really valuable, high-impact features (e.g. team goals, deal overlays, color coding the deals board) that fall higher on the priority list. We can't take this on. But we understand the need and see the value in a cloning feature.
Thank you for your continued feedack here. I wanted to provide an update on the status of this idea. Cloning a deal is absolutely on a list of things we’d like to do. However, the list is long and time and resources are limited, so building this functionality is ultimately a question of priorities, and this is a lower priority compared to some of the other things we’re working on right now. We're continuing to keep an eye on the use cases provided in this idea and are always re-evaluating our top priorities, I'll be sure to update this thread when this is a more near-term priority.
Thank you for your continued input on this idea. As I mentioned in a previous post, saving reps time is squarely in the realm of things we are thinking about on the HubSpot Product Team.
To be more precise, creating a new deal and associating it with the company and contacts in zapier is not really enough for us. We need to copy all activieties (email history and notes) to the newly created deal as well!
@Bahar, you need to set the custom value of each field for the data to be copied. See the step by step set-up of our zap.
1) Basically our zap, will be triggered once deals stage has been updated to "CLONE ME" stage.
2) I created a filter wherein the app will only clone deals with "CLONE ME" deal stage. (Please note that the alphanumeric value is the internal value of "CLONE ME" stage): 3) Set to create new deals then manually set each field and its customized data:
4) This is just optional though. Add another action by sending email notification to Hubspot Owner with the link to the newly "Cloned" deals: Actual Email Notification
BTW, we've tested the bulk edit and updated multiple deals. It cloned all deals with the updated deal stage 🙂 You can literally clone 2 or more deals at once.
@Goohlay, thank you so much for your detailed explanation! We ended up doing the same thing, but it is not really clonning the deal. We are basically creating a new deal, and mapping the properties. So we still miss the activieties (email history and notes)!
Definitely need this feature to clone a deal. We use a separate pipeline to manage contacts (which could be done as a native object in Salesforce). When a deal goes to closed-won in our sales pipeline, we need to duplicate the deal as to create a contract for it.
It's STUPID you can't do this. I can't say anything else other than - this is a friggen sales App for #$^% sake - and we merge deals all the time! What are you guys doing? This has been lurking on this board forever as a serious issue. I also posted this where a Community Mgr stated you can't do it.
@Goohlay I have seen your workaround. I would like to appy it as well. But I don't know where to find the alphanumeric internal value of a stage (for the filter), which I called "deals to be cloned" since I will store them just temporarily in there. Once I have cloned them, I will move them back where they were in the pipeline and delete the "clone stage". As I can see all I have to do in step 3 is to set to "custom value"?
@Goohlay Thank you very much. Yes, that helped. I could find the value now.
When I tried to clone the deals under "clone deals" stage, it create empty deals for me. I guess, I have not been applying your 3rd step correctly. Could you elaborate on it? How can I make sure that it takes the exact same information as in the original deal properties? Such as associated contact, associated company, amount, close date, hubspot owner etc.
It is my first time with Zappier. Sorry, for the trivial questions.
You'll need to set each field manually. In order to capture the correct data, you need to match the "field name" and "content name" value. See picture below:
Not all fields will contain the exact data you are copying though. For example, the pipeline value you're copying is "Sales Pipeline". What will appear in the field is instead of "Sales Pipeline", it will capture the internal value just like what I've shared with you.
