[Now Live] Topic Discovery in Content Strategy

What is it?

The content strategy tool now includes a topic discovery step in the topic creation process.

Why does it matter?
At the end of May, we sunsetted the keywords tool in HubSpot. We did this because selecting a long tail keyword and creating a number of blog posts around that keyword no longer works to get your content on the first page of Google search results. Instead, you need to organize your content around a broad topic, with backlinks that alert search engines to your domain’s authority on that particular topic. But in this increasingly competitive world of search, you need to choose topics that are right for your business. This new topic discovery step lets you see how popular a topic is, as well as how competitive, so you can choose the right topic to go after and build supporting content around.

How does it work?
Within content strategy, click ‘Create a topic cluster.’ Doing so will bring you to the following screen.

From here, you can research and compare different topic ideas. Entering in your topics will provide you with the topic’s monthly search volume, and how difficult it will be to rank for that specific topic. Once you have selected a topic idea, click ‘create topic’ and you’ll be brought to the topic editor.

Like the rest of content strategy, this tool includes a country toggle so you can see how search volume and difficulty changes based on region.
