[Heads Up] Twitter Automation Changes

What is it?
On February 21, Twitter announced a change to their stance on tweet automation to deter users from artificially amplifying certain messages. This means that social tools like HubSpot will no longer allow users to schedule or publish the same tweet from multiple accounts.

Why does it matter?
Inbound marketing is predicated on providing your customers with useful and relevant content. When using social channels such as Twitter for Inbound, the focus should be on engaging with your audience and building brand awareness - not scheduling the same post across the accounts you manage to artificially increase views on your latest blog post or to influence a trending hashtag. Twitter's announcement shows they are changing their platform towards an inbound approach that will encourage brands to engage with their audiences in a more engaging, meaningful way.

How does it work?
To comply with Twitter’s new stance on tweet automation, we will be making changes to how our users will post content to Twitter through our Social tools. In the next couple of weeks:

  • Only one Twitter account can be used for each tweet. Users will no longer be able to post the same tweet across several connected Twitter accounts
  • Only one Twitter account can be used for blog auto-publish within a portal.

Who does this affect?
This will affect all users of HubSpot’s social tools.
