Tagging companies with a property

SOLVE

Hi - I'm wondering how Hubspot actually associates properties with companies? For example: I've created a new properties that has a dropdown select option between 5 different options on the company level and see that Hubspot has automatically tagged each company with this new property. What is Hubspot's process for tagging and does it actually associate each property to company? When I click into the company information I do not see this property tag, and I am unsure if the automatic tagging is correct.

Hi @Mlho,

Could you explain what you mean when you say that each company was tagged?

When you create a new property for an object, then yes, it displays for every single record. There is no way to limit which records the new property displays on. This is an unchangeable default. New properties for an object are available on all records.

However, when you create a new property, HubSpot will not populate the new field with a value automatically. The field will be empty on all company records.

If you're seeing that values are added automatically, then please check the property history: https://knowledge.hubspot.com/records/view-record-property-history

It's not HubSpot that adds this value automatically, something else is very, very likely happening.

Best regards!

HubSpot associates properties with companies based on how they are configured in your account settings. If you've created a new property with a dropdown select option for companies, HubSpot should automatically tag each company with this property based on the selected option. However, if you're not seeing this property tag when you click into the company information, it could indicate a configuration issue or a display setting in HubSpot that needs adjustment. Double-check your property settings and ensure that the property is configured to display correctly in the company view. If the automatic tagging seems incorrect, you may need to review your property setup and mapping in HubSpot to ensure accuracy.
