Re: Deals Vs. Products

Hi @Jaycee_Lewis

All in-app options.

It looks like I posted in the wrong group. The questions are not related to development but rather product features,  specifically the "Products"  UI display, filter, usage

Hi @Kabaja,

thank you for reaching out to the Community, I'll add the questions from your original post here:

"We're new to HubSpot. We were able to create products, Associate them with deals by line_items, and associate Deals with companies using the API

Questions:

1# In the Deals UI, there is no association label with the line_items or Products. To get to Products, we have to click on each line_item, then click get the Product information.
#2 The product information can only be searched | or filtered as text by the default fields. For example, we cannot search price by range (=< >).
If we missed something, please let us know.
If all correct? When would we use products instead of  Deals?
In Deals, we can create all the product's custom fields and can search & filter."

In HubSpot, Deals are the primary object used to track revenue and sales and products are mostly used to add context to your Deals, as you can associate them with individual deals. When you associate a product to a deal or quote, you are adding a line item, which is one instance of that product. You can review the difference between products and line items in this Knowledge base article.

To your questions - you're right, line items that are associated with a Deal, can only be viewed in the right side bar of a Deal. They do, however, come in very handy when you're creating Quotes for your customers, as they can easily be added to the quote template.
I hope this helps!

Cheers
