Populating company properties best practices?

Hi everyone,

During our lead qualification process, we have certain company properties defined that should be populated to assess lead potential. Since sales is working on lead and deal level, populating properties on company level doesn't feel natural.

Therefore, I was wondering if you have any best practices to make sure that sales populates this information without me having to remind them all the time? Workflows? Arranging company properties in a certain way? Duplicating company properties on lead/deal level and having a workflow copy the values to company level?

I'm aware that there's a playbook function where you can add questions and properties as answers but this is not part of our subscription sadly (Sales Hub Professional).

Hi @Fexxi,

As long as we don't get required properties of associated records in lead and deal stages, there isn't a great solution for this, unfortunately.

This is unfortunately not possible at this stage. However, other users have requested this before: https://community.hubspot.com/t5/HubSpot-Ideas/Make-properties-on-associated-records-required-when-m...

These requests submitted to the HubSpot Ideas section of the community are reviewed by the HubSpot product team, based on their popularity and the assumed demand. I'd recommend commenting and upvoting.

You can also help other HubSpot users find this request more easily (and drive traction) by accepting my reply as a solution. I'd appreciate it, too.

As far as workarounds go, you've mentioned a few ones already. Which one is best suitable depends on your exact process and the field. Copying values via workflow can be a good solution as long as you can prevent situations where users expect a two-way sync (which can't be solved reliably through workflows).

Sync properties mean that the target property is not editable – if that's not required, then they're a great solution.

Lastly, creating filtered views, email notifications and reports that show which records still need some love and attention by users can be a third tool in the set.

Overall however, these are all just bandaids on the wound that is missing required associated properties for lead/deal stages.

Have a great day!

Not the answer I was hoping for but the answer I was expecting. Thank you, Karsten!
