With one of the recent updates, I have having a hard time editing my enrollment and unenrollment triggers in my workflows. I have several workflows set up and connected to pipelines so that if a deal enters a state of a the pipeline, it unenrolls the deal in any other workflows and enrolls in new workflows. This worked beautifully for a long time, but with a recent update, if I try to edit an enrollment trigger, it now says, "You can't change the trigger of this workflow because it was preset in deal pipeline settings. You can clone this workflow to customize the trigger. Learn More."
The "Learn More" link isn't helpful with what to do to change these, so is my only option to close the workflow and rebuilt my entire pipeline connections to the workflows???
Also, when I go to the Unenrollment triggers, it doesn't allow me to edit or add any unenrollment triggers.
I thought at first this only affected pervious workflows from before the update, but I just created new ones and am having the same problem. Help!
Are you able to create new workflows and set up unenrollment based on deal stages in the left sidebar / unenrollment tab as shown below?
This should still be accessible to you.
As far as the existing workflows go, I would probably reach out to HubSpot support to clarify what's going on – but the reply is likely going to be that these type of unenrollment criteria are no longer supported and you'll have to recreate the workflows with the new unenrollment options.
In terms of having to rebuild everything from scratch, have you checked if cloning and adjusting the enrollment and unenrollment criteria works? (as per this note "You can clone this workflow to customize the trigger.")

Yes, you are correct. HubSpot's recent updates have indeed introduced more stringent rules regarding workflows that are directly linked to pipeline automation. This is the reason for the limitations you are currently experiencing. When workflows are associated with deal pipeline automation (such as stages within a pipeline), HubSpot restricts the enrollment trigger. This is to prevent breaking the automation logic that's been configured in the pipeline settings.
To customize the enrollment triggers, you will now need to clone the already created workflows and modify them according to your requirement. This ensures that changes don’t accidentally disrupt other connected workflows or pipeline automations.
Here are the steps to resolve the issue: 1. Clone the existing workflow by clicking the "Actions" menu in the top-right corner of the workflow and select "Clone." 2. In the cloned version, you will have the ability to fully customize the enrollment triggers and also add unenrollment triggers as needed. 3. Simply deactivate the old workflow and activate the new cloned workflow.
This approach allows you to make the necessary adjustments without the need to build a new workflow from scratch, ensuring a smooth transition.
Let me know if you need any further assistance!
