Open Tasks - Default Sorting Changed

SOLVE

Hello - this is my first time posting here, so I hope this is the right place.

I have been using the "Open Tasks" report successfully for years, but just today it started sorting backwards by task due date. As you can imagine, this is less than ideal, as it's preferable to see your next upcoming tasks on top. There appears to be no way to adjust the default sort for this report.

What changed and how do I change it back?

Open Tasks - Default Sorting Changed

SOLVE

Hello @Hscholl1

Welcome to the HubSpot Community!! Thank you for sharing your first question!

As of April 2025, HubSpot updated the default sort order for "Tasks" reports—including the commonly used “Open Tasks” report—to sort by Task Due Date in descending order (latest → earliest) rather than ascending.

This was not a user-triggered change, and HubSpot unfortunately does not currently allow setting or saving a default sort order on tasks reports, even in custom reports. The sort resets when you reload the dashboard or navigate away.

Open Tasks - Default Sorting Changed

Thank you for the quick reply @Sabrinacomai. I'm glad to know it's not something I did.

This change is unfortunate. I can't imagine any scenario in which I'd want to see the furthest away task on top. My organization uses the task report as a sort of to-do list on our dashboards, so having the next due tasks on top is ideal.
