Make Task Owner, the Contact Owner

SOLVE

I am trying to find a way to make the contact owner, the person who is assigned a task to that contact. When we got started on HubSpot, our contact owner sections were not clear. I tried to export all open tasks, but it wouldn't line up with the contacts name when I tried to import it.

Make Task Owner, the Contact Owner

SOLVE

Hi @NGottlieb,

If you have a Professional subscription, the easiest option is a task based workflow. https://knowledge.hubspot.com/workflows/create-workflows

Enroll based on 'When filter criteria is met', change the 'Filtering on' dropdown to 'Contact' and then set up enrollment as shown below:

In the 'Edit record' workflow action, first add the contact object under available data...

... then, once added, you'll find 'Contact owner' here:

This workflow will enrolls tasks associated to contacts with a known owner, then assign the task to whoever the contact owner is.

Best regards!

I believe I worded this poorly, I wanted the Contact owner, to be the owner that we had for tasks, after turning on this workflow, it turned all the tasks assigned to the contact owner which is incorrect. So I need a way to revert this back to how it was.

@NGottlieb that is very unfortunate. I had summarized what my workflow does at the end of my reply to avoid any misunderstandings.

There is no easy reverse button or time machine here. The changes are made. I can't think of an immediate fix here that does not require working with the API. I'll let you know if I can come up with anything.

As far as the original workflow goes, it would simply work the other way around. When task owner is known, copy task owner into the contact owner.

I was luckily able to manually change it back, as there was about 300 tasks.
