How to incentivize invoice online payment

We use (standalone) invoices and online payments.  Our clients can and some do mail in a physical check (you cannot remove the address field off the invoice template but that's a different post).  We would like to encourage them to pay online by offering a discount for doing so.

However, it seems there is no straight forward way to do this.  My ideal approach would have been to leverage the payment fee structure in place today.  The same mechanism that can add 3% to credit card payments for example.  We could enter a -2% "fee" for direct debit payment.  But the setup screen doesn't allow me to enter a negative value. Smallest value is 0.01.

The next best approach would be to use discount codes.  This wouldn't limit to ACH only, but it's better than nothing.  Alas, discount codes aren't supported for invoices.  Only direct payment links.  So clicking the payment link on the invoice doesn't offer a place to enter a code.

Anyone have a suggestion on how to accomplish this?  Will using Stripe instead of native Hubspot as payment processor allow us to apply this discount at the Stripe checkout page?

Appreciate any input.

Hi @darveesh,

I’m tagging a couple of our Community Champions, @Alex_Elborn and @JenBergren, in case they have developed a creative custom workaround for this specific invoicing scenario, as they are experts in optimizing portal setups.

Currently, HubSpot’s native payment settings do not support discounts based on the selected payment method. Standard Invoices in HubSpot do not have a field for customers to enter a discount code at the time of payment. The ‘Discount Code’ feature is currently specific to Payment Links.

Even if you use Stripe as your processor, the checkout experience for a HubSpot Invoice is driven by the HubSpot interface. Therefore, Stripe’s native coupon functionality won’t appear on the HubSpot invoice payment page.

I highly recommend upvoting this relevant feature request in the HubSpot Ideas Forum, as this helps the product team prioritize these financial features.

(That posting linked above is close, but a specific "Payment Method Discount" idea would also be valuable - if you post one, comment the link here so I can upvote it too!).

Hi @SealaB .  Thank you for your reply.  Helpful to know using Stripe won't make a difference. I went ahead and upvoted the other idea.  Here is one that I submitted myself: https://community.hubspot.com/t5/HubSpot-Ideas/Apply-discount-codes-or-negative-fees-for-online-paym...
