How to Automatically Populate the Contact Property 'Company Name' with a Workflow
The ‘Company Name’ property on a Contact Record is a useful data point - it’s a handy property for use in personalization tokens and the reporting tool.
That said, the property value for the contact’s ‘Company Name’ isn’t automatically populated from the Contact’s associated Company record. This provides more opportunity for customization while retaining the same associated company. For example, if we want to note the company’s location with ‘Company A (Boston)’ or ‘Company A (Tokyo)’. However, this makes it somewhat tedious to update and easy to miss out on contacts when doing so manually.
In order to automate the process, we can create a contact-based workflow to copy the Company property 'Name' to Contact property 'Company Name'. Here’s how we can do so!
The enrollment trigger will be set to:
‘Company Properties > Name is Known’ - this ensures that we have a value to copy from the associated Company record, AND
‘Contact Properties > Company Name is Unknown’ - this is so that we are targeting contacts without an existing value and aren’t overwriting any important information.

After which, we can select the action ‘Copy Company Property Value’, and configure the settings to copy the ‘Name' property to the target ‘Company Name’.

Additional Tip:
When reviewing and turning on the workflow, I would also recommend choosing the option for ‘Yes, enroll existing contacts who meet the trigger criteria as of now’. This will enroll all contacts that currently don’t have a populated ‘Company Name’ property and copy the values over.
