*Head Scratcher* with Workflows: create contact, create lead, then delete contact

Ok so as we all know in order to create a lead you need to associate it with a contact or company. I am using a data tool that pushes enriched contacts into Husbpot. I have a custom contact property that I'm mapping over [contact_source] that I'm using as the trigger for a workflow to then create a Lead associated with the contact.

The trouble is, I don't want to have a contact anymore, I just want to have a lead but that's where the validation rules get tricky. If I just set my workflow to delete the contact then the lead goes with it.

I'm trying to figure out how I can use the contact to create a lead, then change or create a new association with the company so that when I delete the contact the lead will now be associated with the company thus being saved from deletion alongside the contact. Am I crazy to think this is possible?

Hi @BRuetsch,

I haven't tested this before but it would make sense that the lead disappears once the only associated record is deleted.

Is there a reason you're not using a company-based workflow directly to create the lead? It would be a two-step process: wait for contact from your enrichment tool, create company record based on contact criteria, use company-based workflow to create lead.

Super helpful Karsten! I guess where I was getting tripped up is that with my enrichment tool also creates a company or automatically associates it with the company if it already exists.

It's not very clear to me via workflows how you make the association to say "Ok this lead belongs to x company" solely based off the contact record and it's availible properties.

This is where I'm currently sitting in the workflow stage:

@BRuetsch if you scroll down the left sidebar, you should see association options.

And then, via 'Add more properties' you can specify the name of the lead and other properties.

Does not have that option unfortunately. Seems very limited options for associations and the only ones currently availible are form submissions, deals, tasks, and the grayed out contact ones you see in the screenshot.

@BRuetsch could you specify what exactly you're attempting to do in that step? The company association is being established automatically, is the issue that you also want to associate a contact? "All contacts" is not an option, you would have to create and use an association label that is limited to 1 assocation to the company, not many.

Hey Karsten,

I thought a video might help clear this up. At the end of the day this might not be possible.
