Cloning a deal

SOLVE

Hello,

I know this has been posted multiple times before but have @hubpost developed a way to clone a deal so that we aren't replicating each time, with minor changes?

Thank you.

Cloning a deal

SOLVE

Hi @NMackay,

No, this is currently not possible but has been requested by many users before: https://community.hubspot.com/t5/HubSpot-Ideas/How-do-you-duplicate-a-Deal/idi-p/15263

The product team reviews these requests based on their popularity, I'd recommend upvoting and commenting. You can also help others find the request more easily (and drive traction) by accepting my reply as a solution. I'd appreciate it, too.

As far as workarounds go, you could continue manually, use workflows or leverage third-party integrations: https://ecosystem.hubspot.com/marketplace/apps/productivity/workflow-automation/deal-duplicator-2016...

A note from the moderator: There are a handful of third party apps suggested by Community members in the thread below! While this feature is not yet native in HubSpot, the apps below could be a great alternative.

Best regards!

Cloning a deal

SOLVE

Good news everyone.. Basic Record Cloning is now in Private Beta 🎉  Shout out to @NazM and the enitre product team for working on bringing this to HubSpot.  Here's more detail:

What is it?

Introducing record cloning, users can now create a new record based on an existing record. Any of the properties and associations that are configured in the create form of the object may be included in the new record.

Why does it matter?

All or part of records may be reusable. Today, users have to do the hard work of copying information from one record to another because they can't clone records. With this update, users are able to duplicate CRM records (Contact, Company, Deal, Ticket, custom objects, Appointments, Listings, Services, and Courses) from their record page. Cloning is an essential feature that saves time and minimizes the risk of mistakes from manual input.

How does it work?

When viewing a record, users with permission to create a new record will find a new option in the Actions dropdown menu. The Clone action starts the record creation with properties and associations pre-filled from the source record.

@STowson9 Let me also chime in here, as I’ve been in this domain for over 2 years. By default, attachments (PDFs, images, etc.) are files, meaning they are stored in the HubSpot library. These files are not physically cloned when you duplicate a deal, because having 5, 10, or more copies of the same file could get messy.

Essentially, when you see attachments in your deals, they appear due to relations and are displayed in the deal view.

That said, I want to mention that I own CloneNer (full disclosure). For those who need more than the basic clone feature, CloneNer allows you to keep the relation to attachments - effectively “cloning attachments” and choose which one to clone - and much more. Give it try.

Best regards!

Hi @SkeeStylus , I've just cloned a deal and notice that attachments are not copied over. Is this correct? Will this be added to the feature?

Cloning a deal

Hey @STowson9 - thanks for posting in the Community!

As noted here, "you can clone a record to quickly pre-fill property values and associations. This saves time and reduces manual input. Supported objects include contacts, companies, deals, tickets, appointments, services, courses, listings, projects, and custom objects (Enterprise only). The clone panel mirrors the create record panel. This means only the configured default and custom property values and associations are copied. Associations such as quotes, activities, or attachments will not be automatically copied." It looks like while the ability to clone deals has been rolled out to all plans and subscriptions, it's not currently possible to include attachments in these clones.

I hope this helps provide some clarity!
