Associating Contacts with Companies NOT using email domain

SOLVE

How do I solve this when the match needs to be on the company name only, and not using email domain?

In my case, I have this unique situation where all my contacts are technically franchisees of the same corporate owner, but they must be managed as completely independent companies, which means they all have the same email domain. I have therefore disabled using their email domain for automatically creating and associating with companies so that all the franchisee owners don't get matched to the corporation that owns the domain. I also have some small SMBs that use gmail emails, so similarly have had that domain disabled.

So what I now have is a list of contacts I've imported and each has a field called Company Name that has the name of the company eg "Franchisee XYZ California Region". I have also imported the list of franchisee companies as Company objects, (keeping the domain field empty), with the Company Name field being the only one populated for each Company (eg. "Franchisee XYZ California Region", "Franchisee XYZ Florida Region" etc).

So now each Contact has no Company object associated with it and conversely each Company has no Contacts. I need to associate them with each other using the "Company Name" field as key instead of the email domain which is what is typically used in Hubspot.

How do I generate a match between the Contacts and the Companies using "Company Name" field between objects and NOT the company domain?

Associating Contacts with Companies NOT using email domain

Hi @Lulib ,

As @PamCotton said, you can do this using a workflow.

Create a Contact based worklfow that triggers if the Company name on the Contact is known.

Then add a Create Associtions action and use the Company name on the Contact and the Company name on the Company to match the 2 records.

Please note that for this to work the Company names on both records must be the exact same.

Hope this helps!

Associating Contacts with Companies NOT using email domain

SOLVE

Hey @Lulib, happy Friday!

To associate contacts with companies using the Company Name field, you can set up a workflow to match contacts and companies by their company names. For smaller lists, you can manually associate them. If you have a larger dataset, using HubSpot’s API to automate the process could be a good solution.

Let me know if you need further help!

Best,

Pam
