Imported contacts names overwritten with email

SOLVE

Hello,

I'm importing a large number of contacts to Hubspot from another platform. When I did so, I specifically assigned the first and last name columns to the corresponding first and last names.

However, when I view my contacts, all of them have their email addresses where it says "name" and also "email."

That said, when I search by  a specific name, the proper contact does come up.

Why doesn't their names show up under the "Name" column as assigned during the import? I'd fix it manually but there are 35,000 contacts.

Imported contacts names overwritten with email

Hi @JFHindy,

HubSpot does not overwrite fields with empty values upon import – when you open your contacts, you should find that their first and last name is empty. HubSpot will only display an email address in the name fields if there is no value for them.

From afar, it sounds like you may have incorrectly mapped the first name and last name field. The good thing is that you can simply repeat the import, as long as you map the email address again. HubSpot will use that as an identifier and update the existing contacts. If you could take a screenshot of the mapping step and share here, that can help with identifying the issue.

Lastly, are you sure that all contacts from your import file have a first and last name and that you didn't accidentally check a few which didn't have values in your source file?

Best regards

"This usually happens due to a mapping issue during import. HubSpot's 'Name' field is a combination of first and last name, but sometimes it doesn't update properly. You can fix it using a workflow or by re-importing the data without having to do it manually."

This did work for me, although I did have to separate first and last names on the backup Excel. Thank you!
