When does "co-created by AI" activate?

JuWa

I recently saw this "co-created by AI"-tag on a social media post that was definitely not written with AI, so I wanted to know what else could "activate" this tag?

I am very conscious about not using any GenAI in my writing, so having this tag (that might also show up on LinkedIn and penalize the content reach) is puzzling.

The Co-created by AI tag in HubSpot’s Social tools activates only when generative AI features are used within HubSpot like the AI content assistant for social captions or posts. If you wrote the content manually or pasted it in from elsewhere, the tag should not appear. However, in some cases, copying AI generated text from external tools and pasting it into HubSpot may trigger the tag, even if you didn’t use HubSpot’s AI directly.
If you’re certain no AI was used, this might be a false trigger and worth flagging to HubSpot Support for review.

 Hi @JuWa

The 'co-created by AI' tag can sometimes flag usage of generative AI tools even when none have been used. This usually happens due to writing patterns or metatags, too. Also, using third-party tools that have AI features any time in the writing process can also result in the content being labelled 'co-created by AI'.

The best way to avoid this is to create and post the entire piece natively on the platform and ensure there is no copy-pasting (even if generative AI isn't directly being used) from third-party tools.

Hey there!

From what I’ve seen, the “Co-created by AI” label usually appears after AI has had a meaningful hand in drafting or editing content, think of it like sharing credit where credit is due.

A few things that typically trigger it:

  • When you use the AI content assistant (e.g., for social posts, emails, or blogs).
  • If you edit or refine AI-generated suggestions, but keep them in your final copy.
  • When the AI doesn't just suggest a title or topic, but actually helps write or restructure the piece.

If none of that applies, say you only made a tiny tweak or used AI just for inspiration. It usually doesn’t kick in.

Sometimes the tag shows up if any AI-assisted tools are detected, even by mistake. It can flag wrong at times. You might find this thread useful: https://community.hubspot.com/t5/Social-Tools

The “co‑created by AI” tag typically activates when you use built‑in generative AI features—like HubSpot’s AI assistant—to draft, edit, or enhance content, even if lightly.

I can favor this label like "co-created by AI" can be frustrating, especially when you're focused on authentic, human-made content. For those of us in digital marketing, especially when working with tight budgets, organic reach is everything. If a tag like that affects visibility, it can really undermine efforts to market smart without spending big. Would love more clarity on how these tags are actually triggered.

I used a text from a colleague who might have used GenAI. I actually heavily edited it but maybe pasting it in (and then rewriting it completely) already triggered the AI-tag even though the final text had nothing to do with the original one.

Thank you very much for the explanation, that's good to know!
