Salesforce has a property type called lookup, and while HubSpot has a similar feature, it’s limited to users. Honestly, it’s one of the few features I miss from my Salesforce days when working in HubSpot.
I’m not alone in this. There’s a 2020 idea post with 250 upvotes, so it’s likely just a matter of time before HubSpot builds this out.
The most common use cases include identifying roles at a company. This can be done with association labels, but it’s not as smooth. Another use case is associating a contact with a deal without pulling in all their upcoming activity. Think of a referrer or partner with tons of emails, where only a few are relevant to a specific deal.
Since it’s been nearly five years, I decided to create a stopgap until HubSpot builds this feature. I developed a private app, which requires enterprise sales or service hub to use. I also documented it so that even non-technical users can launch it in their instance.
I hope this doesn’t sound too promotional. As an open-source GitHub repo under the MIT license, I’m not making any money from it. I just wanted to share it with the community, as it solves a major issue for many people.
If you’re interested, here’s the link to the repo, along with a GIF showing how it works in action. Thanks for taking the time to read this, and I hope it helps!
