Integrating to Salesforce without Salesforce Admin

Hi All, 

I have been working through the guide for integrating HubSpot in to Salesforce and have been setting up a selective sync through https://www.hubspot.com/salesforce-selective-sync

We have a limited number of System Administrator logins for Saleforce and so we are trying to use a salesforce account/user that meets the suggested criteria found here: https://knowledge.hubspot.com/salesforce/install-the-hubspot-salesforce-integration#install-the-hubs...

I have installed the HubSpot Integration permission set and have assigned it to my newly created user with the recommended profile, role and permission set but I am unable to change the integration user over to this new salesforce user/account but my login attempts keep whirring for a few minutes and then failing. 

Has anyone else encountered this issue and is there a known fix?
