Does changing Salesforce primary email create Hubspot duplicates?

I've come across a few issues where a contact's email address has changed (company takeover etc.) The email record in salesforce was updated but a new Hubspot contact was created in Hubspot instead of the existing Hubspot contact being updated. So Hubspot now has two records for the same person but with different emails. Is this normal?

I'm encountering this same issue. When a person record's email in our Salesforce database is changed, it creates a new Hubspot record instead of updating the existing. Are there any suggestions or resources to troubleshoot this?
The expected behaviour here would be that HubSpot updates the primary email address of the existing contact in yor HubSpot account (and doesn't create a new contact).
