I am implementing RingCentral with a client, despite the documentation not being the best, and reviews being a bit concerning, so far so good!
I have not touched Data Sync yet and want to get some ideas as to which configutations is best?
My Sense is that data should sync from Hubspot to RingCentral, not the other way, and not bi-directionally.
This is because I want Hubspot to be source of truth and the main working environment, I don't want people entering in Contacts in RingCentral that may create duplicates in Hubspot. I don't see the benefit of pushing any Contact data from RC to HS.
The only complaints I have are: 1. Texts can't log to Deals
2. If the Hubspot Contact doesn't have the right number format (+1) a Contact record can get created for that number when operating out of RingCentral 3. Texts log as a separate activity record type and are not recognized in workflows (for SLA's for example)

This is a common issue we see here at Insycle (I work for them). Insycle offers advanced phone number formatting to make sure they are all consistent. Additionally, the deduplication feature ignores formatting and looks at the raw underlying number when identifying duplicates, which would help alleviate that problem.
Another common issue with phone integrations is that since an email may not always be collected when engaging with contacts in the phone system, they often use a placeholder email. With CallRail for example, the placeholder email is phonenumber@call.com . Well, that can cause issues with association and deduplication. We wrote about it extensively here, unsure if it applies to RingCentral or not.
I can vouch for insycle... I absolutely no affiliation with them but I saw somewhere else on the hubllspot forum talk about it So I tried it out. I have it set up to automatically standardize all phone numbers, which was a key part to making my zapier call log sync work.
We pay HubSpot five figures a year for a team of three sales people and the fact that we still have to use zapier and third party services to do something with basic as logging phone calls is simply ridiculous.
I don't know if anyone has noticed my growing distaste for HubSpot.
Thank you for your valuable feedback, I can understand that this can be frustrating!
I will be sharing your feedback internally.
Please note that you can also reach out to your Customer Success Manager yourself if you have any concerns about your account or your HubSpot subscription.

First, can you please confirm, which integration are you using? "RingCentral for HubSpot" provided by RingCentral or "RingCentral" provided by HubSpot?
We are using both integrations, my question is primarily related to the DataSync and what is the recommended sync option
Which type of texts are you refering to in RingCentral please?
Any text sent either from RingCentral Hubspot widget or from the RingCentral web or mobile app
Do you need to log SMS from RingCentral into deals on HubSpot, is that right?
Yes
To which record the texts are associated with in RingCentral? To a contact at the moment? Or to a deal?

I am using the integration by Ringcentral which only seems to integrate calling tools within Hubspot...and only calls ran through this built-in dialer will be logged in Hubspot. This is where our problem is with Ringcentral <> Hubspot...we need all calls logged, even inbound calls or calls made from the ringcentral app or desktop phone. This is why I had to do that crazy round-about solution.
I did just setup the ringcentral integration from hubspot but all that does is sync contacts, not call records.
