Reporting on Single-Owner and Split Deals in a Report

SOLVE

EDIT AS OF 9/23/25: We've heard your feedback and will no longer be making this change. Deal splits will still be available to report on as they are. No action is needed.

As part of upcoming changes to Deal Splits, HubSpot will no longer create explicit 100% Deal Split records for single-owner deals.

Instead, deals with a single owner will be treated as implicitly 100% owned by that user, but will not generate a Deal Split record. This simplifies system behavior and improves performance, but it means that reports built only on the Deal Split object will no longer include single-owner deals.

Reports themselves will not break or disappear, but they will silently exclude any deals that do not have an explicit split record (which now includes single-owner deals). The underlying data will be incomplete if users do not update their reports to reflect the new model.

Replacing deal_split owner with deal_owner alone won’t capture both types of deals. If customers want reporting that includes both types, we recommend building a combined report and using a custom formula

This currently affects deals with one owner (or a 100%, single split). Please note that dashboards may appear incomplete if reports are not updated to reflect the new logic.

The workaround

To keep reporting consistent, we recommend using a custom report or dataset that combines Deals and Deal Splits, and adding a formula field to unify attribution amounts.

Instructions

  1. In your custom report builder, choose Deals as your primary object and Deal Splits as your secondary object.
  2. Add a custom formula field by enrolling into this public beta for Formula Fields in Custom Report Builder.
  3. Create a field: “Attribution amount” and use this formula:
    1. IF(IS_KNOWN([DEAL_SPLIT.hs_deal_split_amount]),[DEAL_SPLIT.hs_deal_split_amount],[DEAL.amount])
    2. This logic means that if the deal is split, use the split amount. If the deal has no split or is 100% owned, use the full deal amount.
  4. If needed, add a similar field for Attribution Owner (optional) if you need to group by rep:
    1. IF(IS_KNOWN([DEAL_SPLIT.hs_owner_id]),[DEAL_SPLIT.hs_owner_id],[DEAL.hs_owner_id])
  5. Filter your report using:
    1. Rep = Deal owner or Rep = Deal split owner

 Hi @LauraW2,

Aside from the workaround mentioned (which isn't ideal when pulling multiple owner IDs in, especially for large or changing teams), I don't have a workaround. I definitely don't have the ability to stop the change from happening, but if you do add something to the ideas forum, please post the link here and I will upvote it.

Here's the link to a community post asking HubSpot to reverse this change! https://community.hubspot.com/t5/HubSpot-Ideas/Single-owner-deal-split-reporting-changes-nightmare/i...

This will completely screw our reporting up - we use both types of deals (split and single owner). Hoping HubSpot decide not to go ahead with this.

I've been able to recreate my closed-won by month by owner report using the instructions provided here, but my owner reports are only able to show the User ID and not the owner's name.

In our business we use both type of deal distriburion, I've already gotten in touch with our account manager begging them to not make the change. This will drastically change the way we work and we now need to review all of our dashboads and reporting- I can't remember the last time an update felt like a huge downgrade that was making our life harder.

I couldn't agree more! I have friends in businesses who use HubSpot and they also use both types of deal distribution - we have also been begging our AM to stop the change. We wont be able to report on sales by deal owner any more. Our whole team use these dashboards to motivate and compete with one another - its a huge motivator within the team. I dont know what we will do if this goes ahead - our team wont be able to see their sales figures any more in hubspot?!
I've tried to log this on the ideas forum but its not yet been approved...

To show a report of sales by rep, you have to then add every single individual deal owner's ID to the attribution formula... and then new joiners one by one. For big companies this isnt workable... WHY are hubspot making this change?!

@Smane1  in your workaround, this pulls only the user's ID number into the report. Is there a way to do it using user's name? (e.g. Sam Smith as opposed to 02803824)

HubSpot support AI gave me "You can combine split and fully‑owned deals into one report using formula fields, but owner output will be an ID. To make it readable, use a small, maintainable mapping formula for your 10 seat users." I'm not following what is meant by the mapping formula. This all doesn't sound too maintainable to me.😒

@LauraW2 a curiosity question here: Does your team use both kinds of deals - standard and split deals? I'm courious on how this reporting change will truly impact users. In my experience, they're two different deal structures, and therefore different reporting. But I could be missing something for sure. Thanks!

Yes we use both! And I have friends in other businesses that are the same - I would have thought most businesses who use split dont solely use split!

This change will completely screw our ability to report through HubSpot - I'm hoping the HubSpot dev team will change their mind as this is causing a lot of anxiety atm!

I could not agree more. This is a change that is in direct conflict with customer needs.

We require an easy way of reporting on overall rep achievement (which includes 0-100% deal attribution). Removing this function dramatically decreases the value of HubSpot reporting and impacts the transparency and motivation of progress from a rep's perspective. We are an ever growing organization and it is untenable to be required to add individual owner ids (let alone report on a string of numbers).

Absolutely bad call - stop it.

Hi @LauraW2,

Thank you for sharing your feedback and raising this concern with the HubSpot Community.

While I can’t speak directly to the reasons behind HubSpot’s change to the attribution formula, I definitely understand how this update could impact your workflow.

I recommend sharing your feedback with our product team through the HubSpot Ideas Forum, where they regularly review customer suggestions: HubSpot Ideas Forum.

In the meantime, if you’re looking for possible workarounds to help manage reporting for both single-owner and split deals, I’d be happy to connect you with our Top Experts: Hi @Mike_Eastwood, @danmoyle and @Josh do you have suggestions to help @LauraW2, please?

Have a great day and thanks so much in advance!
