Hi,
The new Prospecting tools including the brand new Lead object are really great new features! I just think that before I can consider introducing the leads object to the customers few things need to be enhanced:
Lead object ownership is always automatically inherited from the contact object. This is not convenient at all if the customer has a SDR team which should contact the leads before those are handed over to the sales & accounts team. Also customers which have different owners for different business lines should have the option to determine to whom the lead object should be assigned.
Overview of all open/active leads: this is now totally missing. You can only review your own leads but not a listing of all open/active leads overall. Management should have possibility to do this.
Custom properties for the lead object; you cannot create custom properties for the lead object at the moment. This should be updated.
Overall it feels like the lead object is a new object type but with restricted features and this annoys me at the moment. It should work as other objects in the system and have the same flexibility.
Anyone faced the same issues and are struggling to really use the new features?

Great news! You can now assign the leads separately from the contact owner 👏 Although you can assign the lead to a user who doesn't have a sales paid seat and due to that cannot update/handle the leads and has no access to the prospecting tools.... This "bug" is good to keep in mind if assigning ownership of the leads to the HubSpot users.

A basic change of lead ownership that works with automation and that is independant from contact owner
It's great that they keep adding "new" features but again it does seem half thoughout again with the roll outs. The fact you cannot do a basic lead assignment is just absurd. There are so many CRMs that have had these features for almost a decade and its the basic functions that are needed.

Struggling with the same issues (and others...), but I do onboard clients on using the Leads object if they don't have another strategy in place for tracking leads (such as having fully adopted and automated the `Lead status` property).
The new Leads object and Prospecting workspace are both far off where I want it to be, but for now I trust HubSpot to swiftly introduce improvements we desperately need. Though very rudimental, especially for new clients I reckon it good enough for now to start out with, and as soon as they're used to it, new features will arise.
However, if you're an advanced user, or you're helping advanced users, you should probably wait a bit until Leads / Prospecting has matured a bit.
Until that moment, a couple of workarounds that could help you;
- Lead object ownership: Too bad... not possible. Only way currently is to 1) Disqualify the current lead 2) change the contact owner and 3) create a new lead. Pay attention to any automations (workflows) in place that could trigger for example notifications or the creation of tasks.
- Overview of all open/active leads: this can be done by creating a custom report in a table view, either based on Contacts or Leads itself. I would advise Contacts though, as it allows you to quickly navigate to the related Contact object if you add the Record ID as a column. Filter on the Lead Pipeline Stage not being any of the qualified or unqualified stages. It's definitely a workaround, as the only way to access this overview is a Dashboard (or the report directly).
- Custom properties for the lead object: Not really a workaround... We really need this... although in the prospecting space you can view all properties visible in the "About" section of the associated Contact and Company. This allows you some control, by adding the property to either of the objects.
We do need a proper upgrade from HubSpot to really unleash the potential power of the Leads object... So a shout out to HubSpot; you go girl!! Get it done! 🙂

Very eager to get going with the Lead object, but the limitations mentioned here is a total show stopper for now. Especially the lack of ownership assignment + list view of all leads.

There should also be an option for multiple ownerships / use of the custom owner propety info for contacts - Now the ownership is based on the original contact owner, but we have clients who have multiple owner´s for contacts so the original property is used only for one team and custom owner property for another team - leads cannot be easily Onboarded for them at this time because of the ownership issue. (It can be done, but it gets quite messy)

@TKilpelänaho - I too am interested to see what is next for the Leads object. It would be great to be able to rename Lead records to something other than th Contact record name!
