Hello! We use a custom field for Lead Source with the sales peoples names in our deals. I am wondering if I can associate the lead source drop down names with the sales teams emails/contacts? I would like to create a workflow that notifies the lead source (ie the sales people) when changes have been made to their deals.
This would be most easily achieved if your lead source field had the property type 'HubSpot user'. It might be an additional field you could create, where the 'Lead source' is a field with values like 'Web form submission', 'Partner' etc. and an option 'User'.
This dependent field would be the 'Lead source user' field – a property of the type 'HubSpot user'. This field will behave similarly to contact owner, deal owner, company owner etc.
The reason why this field would be so useful is that you can specify this owner in workflow notifications. For example, if this 'Lead source user' field is a deal property, you can simply send a notification to the 'Lead source user' in a deal-based workflow.
You can of course also work with a regular dropdown property. In that case, however, you would need to work with branches.
If lead source has the value Jane Doe, send an internal notification to Jane Doe
If lead source has the value John Doe, send an internal notification to John Doe
You would need to create a branch and separate notification for each user – which also makes maintenance a nightmare if you have a bit of fluctuation.
Let me know if you have any follow-up questions!
