Salespeople who are out on the road have a different kind of professional life.
They don't always have their laptop with them, so they rely on their smartphone. This presents a number of challenges:
- Their Gmail app does not have the same integration with Hubspot as their inbox in a browser with an extension - There is no option to see if there are any interesting prospects in the vicinity - Calendar management from Hubspot is not possible. It can only pick up what has been created elsewhere.
I was wondering if other companies encounter this problem and how they deal with it.
Totally get you. A lot of customers who have a field sales motion face the same pain. Many still go the traditional way by uploading a spreadsheet at the end of the week or dumping call notes into HubSpot once they are back at their desk. It works but it is clunky.
Here are a few hacks that make life a bit easier on the road:
Gmail mobile <> HubSpot: Use the bcc-to-CRM address. Any email you send from the Gmail app will still log into HubSpot automatically. It is not as seamless as the Chrome extension on desktop but it ensures conversations don’t get lost.
Calendar on the go: Most reps just live out of Google or Outlook calendar since HubSpot syncs anyway. A common trick is to save your HubSpot meeting link in Notes or set it up as a mobile shortcut. This makes it quick to drop into a text or email without fumbling through the app.
Prospects nearby: This is where dedicated mapping tools fill the gap.
- Map My Customers gives reps a live “who’s around me” view. You can visualize accounts on a map, plan your day by territory, and log activity directly from your phone. With the HubSpot integration, notes and visits sync back automatically.
- Mapsly is more customizable and works across multiple CRMs including HubSpot. It supports geo-fencing, routing optimization, and custom actions such as updating a deal stage or creating a task directly from the map view.
Both are designed to make the field sales motion more structured instead of relying on memory and end-of-day updates.
These hacks are not perfect but they take away a lot of friction until HubSpot expands its mobile experience.
