There should be a way to limit what reps can select from in the product library. The property exists for Currently Active - Yes/No. But, it doesn't do anything. When a product is discontinued I can't delete it from the library, but I should be able to restrict it from being used!
I’m with hapily, a HubSpot App Partner, and we offer a HubSpot app called quote•hapily that addresses this use case (along with many others). quote•hapily allows you to create Price Books that control which products users can add to a Deal when generating a Quote. This means you can set up a Price Book specifically for active products!
For your scenario, you could create a Price Book “Active Products” and manage the products in that list within HubSpot using a Product property called "Price Books" (read more).
Once configured, anytime a user creates a quote using the quote•hapily quote builder the "Active Products" price book is selected, they will only see the products associated with that Price Book.
The Quote Builder shown above is part of quote•hapily and fully replaces the HubSpot Quote Builder, ensuring a seamless experience for the user (learn more here). You can also set up rules to automatically assign a Price Book based on details in the Deal or other associated objects.

Hiding inactive products is critical. As more time has passed since the improvements of products in general - and the increased usage - this enhancement is now overdue.
I prefer to make products inactive and keep the history that the product existed for research on older closed/lost deals and yet there is no way to do this - that i know of - other than change the name of the product to put XXX or ZZZ in the front. I started out parking them in a folder named DO NOT USE but that is not something that is noticed when sales is adding deals.
If this has been solved - hurray - if not, an update of when we can expect it would be great. Going to continue to research the community posts as well.
I understand that you would like to hide some products from the library while adding them to a deal, currently, HubSpot does not have this capability, but this is something the product team has under their radar since it is a constant request from our customer, I will be confident in saying we should see something very likely in the future.
In the meantime, I would like to encourage you to upvote this idea here, which talks about this same request and where our product will eventually comment if there is any launch in this regard.
Currently, the option is still unavailable. I recommend following the feature request so you can receive immediate updates if anything changes. On a positive note, @hapilyJonathan has shared an alternative solution that could help you achieve your goal, since HubSpot doesn’t offer this feature natively. Feel free to check it out and take advantage of it!
