"?" icon appearing next to email

SOLVE

An email sent from Hubspot to a gmail user is seeing a "?" icon next to the email.

SOLVE

Hi @YT1,

 

Question marks appear next to sender's names in Gmail when those message are not authenticated, or, in other words: Gmail (and probably other email service providers) cannot say for sure that the message is coming from the company or person who appears to be sending it. Gmail Help article here.

 

The emails that you send need to be authenticated by using DKIM (preferred by Gmail) or SPF. Your first steps would be to check if you've connected your email sending domain correctly. HubSpot has a Knowledge Base article on that here.

 

After doing so, you can perform a DKIM record test with a third party tool like the DKIM Check by MxToolbox: https://mxtoolbox.com/dkim.aspx
