Extremely high email open count

SOLVE

Hi, our team are seeing very high email open counts where an email is opened at a time of say 10:44, and there will be several notifications all timestamped for 10:44, some saying 24 opens, some saying 1 or 2, some saying 9 or 10. We use these numbers to prospect so want to know if these are a true reflection of open rate or if this is a bug. Thanks!Screenshot 2024-10-14 at 10.46.46.png

Extremely high email open count

SOLVE

Hi @EPearce85,

This could be for a multitude of reasons. For one, email clients sometimes pre-load emails to be faster when the user actually opens the email. It could however also simply be the user browsing through their inbox, keep in mind that each open, even if it's unintentional, would be counted.

What's more likely here however is that the email was sent to either multiple recipients or forwarded internally. There is no way for a tracked email to know by whom it was opened – hence the numbers can easily climb like in your screenshots: https://knowledge.hubspot.com/connected-email/understand-hubspot-sales-email-open-and-click-tracking

Personally, I would not rely too much on email open information.

Hope this helps!
