Is SEO part of the job of a Social Media Manager?

Hi! I'm planning to build my profile as a Social Media Manager by taking up courses that I think will make me fit for the job. I specialize in Instagram Marketing and am more familiar with its algorithm. I want to ask, what is the significance of SEO as a Social Media Manager (especially Instagram although I'm still learning about other platforms)?

In my experience, Social Media Manager does not require the skills of SEO, however, it is always good to have a basic knowledge of it. Especially, Keyword research will help you in this job. How you can target your audience on social media platforms using the keywords. If you will have the basic knowledge of it you can be really good at it. and I would agree with @Jnix284 , you can start with Guide to Instagram SEO from Neil Patel or the courses offered on Linkedin. They are really great.

Typically, a Social Media Manager is not responsible for SEO, at least not at the comprehensive, strategic/planning level.

With that said, every online channel is an opportunity for SEO.

Great question. In my experience, social media managers don't handle SEO. However, if you are a digital marketing coordinator or marketing specialist, you could have job duties that include SEO. 

If you are wanting to brand away from social media, SEO is a great area to improve your skills.
