Understanding "Views" and "New Visitor Sessions" in HubSpot

Hi everyone,

I need clarification on the metrics "Views" and "New Visitor Sessions" in HubSpot.

I've attached a screenshot where you can see these metrics, and I would appreciate a precise explanation of what they represent.

To provide context, one of our advertisers ran a banner ad campaign in Google Ad Manager (GAM) using UTM parameters for tracking. In GAM, the performance report shows 10+ clicks on the ad. However, in the UTM report on HubSpot, the Views and New Visitor Sessions are significantly higher than the GAM click data.

Could someone help clarify why this discrepancy occurs and how these metrics are recorded in HubSpot? Any insights or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

Hi NRaja,

Great question! Here’s a breakdown of the metrics in HubSpot:

- **Views**: This refers to the number of times a page was loaded. If a visitor refreshes the page or visits it multiple times, each instance counts as a separate view.
- **New Visitor Sessions**: This represents the number of new unique visitors starting a session on your site. A session typically lasts for a set duration (e.g., 30 minutes) and can include multiple page views.

### Why the discrepancy between GAM and HubSpot?
There are a few reasons why your HubSpot UTM report shows more Views and New Visitor Sessions than the clicks recorded in Google Ad Manager (GAM):

1. **Multiple Views per Click** – A user clicking an ad might navigate through multiple pages on your site, leading to more Views than clicks.
2. **Session Attribution Differences** – GAM tracks clicks, whereas HubSpot tracks sessions, which can persist over a time period and include more than one interaction.
3. **Bot Traffic** – Some ad clicks may come from bots, but GAM might filter them differently than HubSpot.
4. **UTM Sharing & Direct Visits** – Users might click the ad, copy the URL, and revisit later, generating additional sessions in HubSpot.

If the difference is significant, checking for bot traffic, delayed attributions, or tracking issues (e.g., redirects stripping UTM parameters) may help refine your analysis.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any further questions.
