No analytics from Contact

SOLVE

Hi,

Just a quick question. I'm still familiarising myself with hubspot, and had a question regarding analytics. We sent a html newsletter to a company employee, however even though this employee clicked on the links in the newsletter, no web analytics appeared under her contact information. Original source is marked as offline. Is this the cause of the issue?

99% of our contacts are from an imported list ( from mailchimp ) and we'd like to ensure we can track their activity (with consent given) on our site. I've been reading the online resources but couldn't find an answer.

Regards,

Chris

Hi Chris,

Yes, while I think there's a tracking pixel in the test email, test emails aren't logged as an email activity in a contact record so email open and click activity have no email activity to display against.  So once you send your marketing email your tracking should work fine.

Hi @Chrispy_Shaker

If you import contacts their original source will be set to Offline regardless of online activity unless you choose to edit the original source.

With your company employee having no web activity being recorded against their contact record, you may want to check internal traffic isn't being filtered out of your reporting:

If no email click or open tracking is occurring check your marketing email are set to track clicks and opens (they should be by default), go to Settings->Marketing->Email->Tracking

Hi Matthew,

Thanks for quick response. I've had a look over my marketing/tracking settings, and there's no indication that internal tracking is being filtered out. All the options for email tracking are selected by default. Do I need to change the source from offline to email/marketing?

Hi @Chrispy_Shaker

You shouldn't have to change the source for marketing email opens and clicks to be tracked. Is your email client perhaps blocking images? This can prevent open tracking working, though click tracking should still work.

If you want you can send me a test marketing email (I'll message you my email address) and I'll open and click it and you can see if this is an internal issue or affecting all email tracking.

Hi Matthew,

I added you as a contact from the email address you provided in your pm to me, thanks. I can see that you have opened the email but so far no clicks or website analytics have been recorded. Did you click on any of the links in the newsletter?

Regards,

Chris

Hi Matthew,

Yes that worked thanks for that. Hmm...I'm wondering why it didn't work for the other contact. If the email sent was a test email would that make any difference to the analytics?
