Yes, HubSpot documents automatically when a contact converts to a specific lifecycle stage.
Navigate to Menu > Reports > Reports > Create report > Single object > Contacts.
Under Filters, change Create date to Date entered 'Marketing Qualified Lead (Lifecycle Stage Pipeline)'. This might be named slightly differently for you, search for MQL or Marketing Qualified Lead.
In the Visualization tab, set the settings up like shown below:
You can now either stick to a bar chart and specify the frequency (Daily, Monthly etc) in the top right corner. Or you switch to a line chart and make it a cumulative visualization, showing growth over time:

Hey, @karstenkoehler if a company tagged as an MQL progresses to an SQL will the cumulative count still show that legacy MQL as that, or will be shown as an SQL instead?
