How do you track conversions from existing contacts?

SOLVE

The Traffic Analytics report is great at showing Sources for NEW CONTACTS.

What about conversions from Existing contacts? How would we track those? It's disappointing that the report doesn't show an option for "All Conversions by Traffic Source"

For example, many of our contacts converted after being uploaded to the DB from offline sources, or as part of an outbound sales outreach. They are not "New" contacts but their conversion data is important to us.

Is there an existing report or custom report to model this?

Hey @chigBungus, thanks for reaching out! And what an incredible username 😂

That's right — HubSpot tracks the first conversion source in the "Original source" property, but that's not really helpful for tracking reconversions.

The good news is that they have a couple other properties you can use for tracking reconversions! Here they are:

Reporting for HubSpot pages (webiste, landing page, blog) is also helpful since it will show you:

  • Total submissions
  • New contacts created (so that conversion was their first logged interaction with you)

You can subtract new contacts from total submissions to determine the contacts that reconverted on that particular asset.

Otherwise, HubSpot does offer attribution reporting, but the best features require a Marketing Enterprise subscription. Here's the Knowledge Base article on these features in case you're interested!

Lastly, you may not necessarily a report that shows you all conversions for all contacts. Instead, try and pick out the ones that are most impactful to you (i.e., closed/won contacts who filled out a certain form, contacts who viewed a blog post and scheduled an appointment, etc.). Those are reports/lists that you should be able to build regardless of the original source.

Hope this helps!!
