Action recommended: Turn on the new setting if you have not added any custom JSON-LD schema to your blog.
We added a brand new setting within the Blog Settings page that, when turned on, will automatically apply the BlogPosting schema to all blog posts within the selected blog.
This setting is turned OFF by default for all existing blogs, but ON for any new blogs created after the rollout. This means that users who would like us to apply the BlogPosting schema to their existing blog posts will have to go into their blog settings and turn this setting ON.
We chose to roll out the setting in the off position by default for existing blogs because many of our blog users have already either manually added schema markup to their post headers, or are using schema generator modules from our marketplace to add it. However, we do recommend that any customers that are not already using schema on their blog posts turn this on.
Structured data, also known as schema markup, or as JSON-LD markup, is a standardized format that helps search engines better understand the context of a page. In addition to helping search engines better understand a web page, schema markup is what Google uses to generate rich snippets on search results pages for special types of content, such as recipes, reviews, or products.
Having the BlogPosting schema on your blog posts can help you obtain article rich snippets on search results pages, like the ones shown below:
Instructions:
1. To turn on this setting and add structured data to your blog posts, go to your Settings > Website > Blog.
2. Use the domain picker at the top of the Blog settings page to select the domain you want to apply the setting for.
3. Look for the setting called "Structured data" under the "General tab". From here, you can turn the setting on or off.
