Let's discuss the sunset of the Microsoft VSTO email extension

Hi all,
Scott from the HubSpot Product team here. I wanted to create a space for conversation around our sunset of the Microsoft VSTO email extension. The tl;dr for why we’re sunsetting this is that Microsoft has moved away from the VSTO add-in framework entirely. This announcement naturally impacts the HubSpot Sales VSTO add-in along with any other VSTO add-in.
For full context and next steps, check out this article. To view other sales extension options, check out our list here.
With that said, let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I’ll try to hop into this thread throughout the next few days to answer questions.

Thanks for your question. We recommend that you continue using the VSTO add-in until Microsoft expands supported inbox types in the web-based platform. HubSpot will continue maintaining the VSTO add-in as long as Microsoft supports the legacy versions of Outlook.

Any updates in 2025? My team is extremely dissapointed at this point (the company uses a combination of the GMail service & Outlook Windows App [not 365]).

What is Microsoft VSTO and how do I even know if we're using it at this point? I'm the HubSpot Admin for our company, and have managed a number of the integrations, and Microsoft never makes things easy with their naming conventions!

I am using the new hubspot plugin for the new outlook. However it keeps logging out, and unlike the VSTO for old Outlook, there is no pop-up to tell you to log in to hubspot when you create a new email. This is very frustrating as we are losing the record of loads of emails that we are sending.
As a workaround I'm pinning the hubspot sales side panel so that its alwasy visible but this takes up valuable screen space so would rather it just worked like it did before please

"The transition from the Microsoft VSTO email extension to the new HubSpot plugin comes with some challenges, especially with automatic login prompts. It’s similar to how Ilford property management requires seamless systems to track tenant interactions efficiently. A more intuitive login reminder or persistent session could improve usability. Hopefully, HubSpot addresses this soon to prevent lost email records and enhance workflow efficiency."

I continually am receiving "Something went wrong" when trying to add the hubspot sales add-in, and we cannot identify any issue or permission that would prevent this add-in from being installed. Need help.

Hello HubSpot community,
Since HubSpot has discontinued support for the Microsoft Outlook desktop application, we’re looking for alternative solutions. We managed to manually install the Outlook desktop app, but we understand this may only be a temporary fix due to the lack of updates and support.
My question is: Are there any third-party plugins or connectors that would allow us to continue using the Outlook desktop app with HubSpot, without relying on the official support that has been discontinued?

Any news on when the Outlook Desktop application will be supported again, as using the Outlook Web application is not an option for us, and it is key for us with a Outlook Desptop add-in

Hi! If you are currently using O365 as your email service provider, you can install the O365 add-in which works on both desktop and the web versions. If you are not using O365, then you can continue using the Microsoft VSTO extension on the desktop app.

The plugin does not work when the e-mail account is not hosted on Office 365 - If you're using the new Outlook to manage your E-Mails on a custom domain ( or Gmail ) the plugin doesn't appear. The old plugin worked perfectly and I'm sad to see it go.
Since neither switching to an Office365- or Gmail-hosted nor sending all E-Mails through the Hubspot web interface is not an option, what can I do?

This is insane, we rely on hubspot for tracking our emails and deals but we aren't going to give up on all of the features of the New Outlook - hello, CoPilot AI add-ins are AMAZING - nor are we going to use the crappy web version - in order to keep using Hubspot.
Seems like we'll just need to cancel our Hubspot subscription and find another way to track our leads. Hubspot, if you're listening, you're going to lose a lot of clients over this 😞

I understand where you're coming from, and our goal is that you can use all the features of the new Outlook alongside HubSpot's email tracking and logging. This is dependent on Microsoft's development of additional support for inbox types and we are working close with their team to get better timelines. Their roadmap is posted here: https://community.hubspot.com/t5/Outlook-Sales-Extension/Ending-Development-for-HubSpot-s-VSTO-Sales...
Once we get news that non-O365 inbox types are support, we'll provide updates here. Let me know if there's anything else I can help answer for you.

Yes, you can always use BCC to manually send emails to HubSpot. But our goal is that we will continue supporting our customers using the legacy Outlook as long as Microsoft supports it, and that most of our users can eventually move over to the new Outlook once more inbox types are supported.

It's really disappointing as logging emails is an essential feature for us. Fingers crossed Hubspot find a solution before Outlook get rid of the legacy version.

Similar question to TAitken9699 - most of my team uses the legacy desktop version of Outlook - it sounds like we can use this until issues come up but then we will either need to work directly in Hubspot or migrate to the web version of Outlook? Hoping for confirmation so I can keep my team informed.

Thanks for your question. That is correct, you will be able to continue using the legacy version of Outlook as long as Microsoft continues supporting it, but we will not be adding more functionality to the VSTO add-in. And for now, we will also fix any bugs and regressions that we find with the VSTO add-in to make sure it remains functional for our users.
