Scanner won’t open

I am having problems with the scanner. It won’t open at all. I deleted the app completely and reloaded but it still does not open. Anyone else having that issue? I contacted customer service, explained the steps I’m taking and I think she was perplexed too. Each time I’m pressing the scanner button it automatically takes me back to my contacts page. Does someone have a work around?
