Typeform Integration - Automatically Update Lead Source

I'm not sure if this is better here or on the Typeform forums, but I integrated Typeform and Hubspot for a "Contact an Expert" link on our website. I was easily able to link fields in the typeform to properties within Hubspot, no problem.

My problem is I want to update properties in Hubspot that are not in the Typeform for every time someone fills out a particular form. For instance, I want any new leads added to Hubspot from this form to have the lead source updated to "Website". This is different from the source tracking guide which is not the way we want to set this up because we want our Lead Source field to be the source of truth which will have a mix of automated and non-automated selections.

We are using Sales Hub Professional and Operations Hub Starter. Is it possible to do the above?

Thanks for the tag Kristen! @AMexicotte Kristen is right, if this was a HubSpot form this is easily achieved through a hidden field.

I haven't used the typeform integration recently if I'm being honest, so I'm not sure if typeform has the functiontlity to add a hidden field. It looks like they do according to their site

The next question is if the integration sends this data from hidden fields, I would assume the answer is yes but it would be worth testing out, if you add a hidden field to your typeform that maps to your lead source and sets the value to "website" does it come in within the HubSpot form submission? If so, then that'll be the solution.

If not, another solution would be to use workflows.

You could create a workflow that enrolls any contacts who submit your form, then use the action of "set contact property value" to set the lead source to website.

Hi @AMexicotte,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community!

The Lead Source property is added to your HubSpot account when Salesforce is connected to your account. It can be updated by adding it as a hidden form field on a HubSpot Form or by manually updating the property itself as mentioned in this knowledge base article.

Could you please confirm if this is the property you are looking to automatically update? Having this information will be helpful for the community to offer guidance on the next steps and brainstorm which tools could help you achieve your goal.

Thank you,

Kristen

Hi Kristen, thanks for the reply! This is a custom Lead Source field since we've never connect Salesforce to Hubspot. We have put our own lead categories in here specific to our business like website traffic, account signup, conference, etc.

Given that, do you feel like adding a hidden field on the form is the best way to update fields like this?

Really appreciate the detailed reply! Most examples of hidden fields with Typeform I'm seeing is adding data automatically from the CRM to the Typeform vs something like this Lead Source use cases so I will need to dig into that.

One last complication is tracking all of the contacts who fill out the form within Hubspot. My guess is that we are going to get both new and existing contacts in Hubspot filling out this form and I want to track all of those contacts somewhere to follow up, whether they were already in the system or not. That means I can't just pull a list of all recently added contacts and sort by the lead source of website since some of those contacts will already have been in the system and therefore the lead source wouldn't necessarily be website.

I hope that makes sense. This is the biggest hurdle IMO to efficiently follow up on form fills.

Hi @AMexicotte,

You're very welcome, and thank you for the additional details on your current setup 🙂

If you have the option of migrating over to HubSpot forms (they can also be embedded on an external website), you can add the "Lead Source" as a hidden field in the form and set the property value upon submission. This knowledge base article explains how to pass contact property's values via a hidden form field.

I also wanted to invite our subject matter experts to see if they have advice

Hi @Mike_Eastwood@TomM2@jolle - Do you have any suggestions for @AMexicotte?

Thank you!

Best,

Kristen
