Linkedin lead gen forms - utms are not captured

SOLVE

Hi,

I'm runinng a Linkedin campaign using their lead gen forms.

Our linkedin ad account is well connected and I can capture leads and trigger workflow.

But, i can see that there is an issue capturing the utms (source, campaign, medium, content). I tried map it manually, but it's not available on mapping dashboard.

How can I sync and map the utms to the property in hubspot?

Thank you!

Hey @Thetinky, thanks for reaching!

What additional data do you need to capture from LinkedIn here? If you know that the leads are coming from paid LinkedIn Ads, then:

  • Source = "Paid social"
  • Medium = "LinkedIn"
  • Campaign = "whatever the name of your LinkedIn Ads campaign is"
  • Content = "the specific ad" (if you need to track this)

Outside of "Content," HubSpot should already be capturing that info with the "Original Source" and "Original Source Drill-Down" properties.

The only area where you'd be able to use a UTM is on the thank you page once the form has been submitted (if the user clicks on that link). However, that's not what's creating the contact — the form submission is (so HubSpot won't pull in UTM data into default properties). However, as long as that thank you page has the HubSpot tracking code on it, you should be able to create a list or trigger a workflow when a contact views a page containing the specific UTM. If that's the case, you could create a workflow that updates a custom "source" property accordingly.

If you need to get really granular with your tracking, consider setting up individual Lead Gen Forms if you haven't already (i.e., create one per ad group or even one per ad). If you know that the only way someone can see a particiular Lead Gen Form is by clicking on a specific ad, you can attribute their source accordingly.

Lastly, I want to make sure you know that under Marketing > Ads, HubSpot gives you a ton of lead creation data. You should be able to click into campaigns that have created contacts, then ad groups that created contacts, then ads that created contacts to see where exactly the leads are coming from. That may not necessarily store every piece of data within a contact record, but you can still easily drill down into your campaigns to see where and when you generated leads.

Hope this helps!!

I had the same problem and I ended up creating a contact event workflow that sets the property values  (i.e. UTMs) after form submission. I created a branch using the "Source Drill Down 2" field to identify the campaign (if there are multiple UTM campaigns) and then it sets the property values.
