Checking for a SiteMap

SOLVE

Hi everyone

I am far from being a coder, but I want to see if my job's website has a sitemap.

I found that error, and I have no idea what it means. Sadly at my school, we don't have access to a computer programer.

Hi @MBissett2. In addition to what @kvlschaefer shared, I would look at this SEMrush resource on the best XML sitemap generator tools. Not only could that help you ensure you have one that works, it's also a good learning resource.

What is the website built on for the content management system (CMS)? Is it easy to add the sitemap?

Hi @MBissett2 ,

You can simply add /sitemap.xml after your website URL to find your sitemap.

If you still don't find it, go through SEOCrwal's post about Sitemap to learn other ways to discover your sitemap.

Checking for a SiteMap

SOLVE

Hi @MBissett2,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community!

I found this resource to help get you started. 🙂

According to this guide, "This error appears when the server expects an XML sitemap during validation. But instead, it has received a response of a different content type, which could be an HTML, 404 error, or perhaps the server itself blocked from accessing the sitemap."

I'll add some experts to our conversation - @danmoyle@JonPayne@Sam62@webdew - Do you have any pointers for @MBissett2?

Thanks!

Best,

Kristen

That's very nice of you to reach out! So I wonder which link is actually the site map link?
