Block Custom Events from Segment Creating Users

We use Segment pretty extensively and have it configured to create new users in HubSpot based on the traits of Identify events.

We also have custom HubSpot events setup for Segment Track events.

Is it possible to prevent HubSpot from creating new contacts based exclusively on the occurance of a custom event?

If a contact exists, we want to log the custom event. But if a contact does not exist, we do not want one to be created by the custom event directly.

Is this possible?

Do your custom events include email data? From what I understand, the event will only create or associate with a contact when an email address is included in the event data. That said, I don't think there is a way to only create contacts for some emails and not others. 

Maybe one of our subject matter experts is aware of a workaround. Hey @GeorgeBThomas, @Alex_Elborn, @Romy-- do y'all know if there is any way to log a custom event without creating a new contact if one does not already exist? Thanks!
