Got this question from a client and I'm thinking the answer is they can be. For contacts that get added via an API integration from our internal website to HubSpot, will they automatically be set as marketing contacts?
They have an ecommerce site (not Shopify) that uses HubSpot API to send customer/contact info into HubSpot.
Any advice on this one?

Hey @danmoyle - Contacts have to be set as marketing either from automation or manually in order to be marked as a Marketing Contact. Meaning that any new contact no matter where they come from has to be marked this way. If it is coming from an API then that API needs to mark that field too. Make sure you have a process for marking these otherwise every contact coming in will be added to this group and may increase your license cost.

Hi @danmoyle ,
I think they may need to use a workflow for this, do you have an example contact created this way?
if the integration shows in their connected apps, you should be able to set the contact created by this integration as marketing

or if they are created via the api key you can do this too.
Hope this helps!
