Tasks not showing & unable to create tasks

My main Task tab is not showing at all, and when I go into a contact's information, all it lets me do is create a note. I can not assign a task or activity or call, etc... only a note. So I can't make ANY tasks whatsoever!! Anyone know why? What am read more
