Why should we put a tracking code to our website to access the List option ?

SOLVE

We're using Hubspot to manage our contact-base but it isn't possible for us to make lists except if we get started with HubSpot Marketing, and for that it requires to put a tracking code to our website.

We wonder why is that required, even for manual lists.

We also wonder if it's safe or if HubSpot might sell our informations to a third party, since we're working with the free version.

Hey @icelandmusic welcome to the HubSpot Community!

First and foremost I should clarify that the Lists tool is available on Marketing Hub as part of the paid Marketing Basic, Pro and Enterprise packages. You can find out more about these pacakges here and about the Lists tool here

To summarise  the Lists  tool works hand-in-hand with your Contacts tool and helps you organize your contacts in a way that makes sense for your business. You'll use the Contacts and Lists tools to manage your contacts and create smart and static contact lists for marketing emails, campaigns and automation.

To confirm, the HubSpot tracking code is not required for the Lists tool. It is required for HubSpot forms, conversion tracking and web analytics reporting. For example, if you want to capture contacts via forms on your website, and your website is not hostedwith HubSpot the tracking code is required in order to track the form submission.

If you're simply looking to organise and segment groups of contacts, the CRM has a free tool called filtered views. Find out more here

In answer to your final question, HubSpot does not and will not sell your information to a third party. You can find out more about our Terms of Service and Accetable Use Policies here: https://legal.hubspot.com/legal-stuff
