I was setting up some automated emails for workflows and noticed that in order to publish them I have to select a subscription type. The workflows I have planned are based around the filters I've set up but not the subscription types. Will the sub types interfere with who gets enrolled or can contacts still enroll if they meet the filter criteria but not the sub type of the emails? I ran tests with a few contacts and it appears they will but I wanted to ask in here to be sure.
Without 'Legal basis for emails' checked, HubSpot will attempt to deliver as long as there is no opt-out.
In other words, the subscription can interfere if the contact is opted out or when the opt-in is missing. If that opt-in is already available due to a contact submitting a form and expressing their consent for that subscription type or any other way (see here), then there isn't any issue.
You can always monitor for issues by opening the marketing email in HubSpot, navigating to the Recipients tab and checking Not sent in the left sidebar. Emails that were held back because of the above will be listed there.
Best regards!
